I would definitely choose a Chinese meal as a takeaway, if I was granted one last meal with my family. My top choice of food has to be Chinese, as I enjoy the attention to detail that is apparent in a top quality restaurant.
A Chinese takeaway is second only to a Chinese restaurant where you can enjoy being pampered by experienced professionals who care about the service that they give. My family and I recently made a trip to London, with the climax to the evening being a trip to China Town in Soho for a meal. There is so much going on in this part of London, that if you were still there at the end of the day it would probably be the last place to turn off its lights. Unfortunately, we were not there during the Chinese New Year celebrations, with the colour and noise of the firecrackers. However, this was not going to be a problem, as I later discovered one or two ‘firecrackers’ in my meal.
It is difficult to stand outside a restaurant in China Town without being spoken to by an employee who is keen to get you inside. Ordinarily I wouldn’t respond favourably to this kind treatment, but with more thought it becomes clear that this is the normal behaviour in the native country. It also helped that our appetites were being stimulated by the exotic aromas of spices and dishes emanating from somewhere below the streets.
The building itself is another thing that often interests me about these sorts of restaurants. They will often have a delicate Chinese facade on the front of the building, originally styled by the Victorians. The style reminds me of an oriental temple, and looks like they could have been transplanted from the far east and reassembled in Soho.
I enjoy ordering the set-menu, whether I am eating in the restaurant or ordering a takeaway, as it enables a group to share the same food. This is a social method of eating that is fun, and allows your group to share and experience similar tastes.
