The first tip would be to work yourself to be in the moment.What am I implying when I said be in the moment?Well,almost all of us know the feeling of being in a wedding.The events here are planned to the last detail.But a lot of emotions happen during those events even if they are planned. Since you have been to many wedding be ready for those moments.Those shots will turn out to be the best among all the photos that you will take. Another thing to remember is that in a wedding people are constantly on the move.So do not focus on taking still shots.Capturing the movements of the people in the wedding would result to some of your best photos. It is a hard trick to capture but can be done. Of course I had to hone my skills doing San Diego event photography to be able to do this.But once you get the hang of taking shots that are not still shots you would start to love it. You will be able to outshoot the hired photographer. As an amatuer photographer that will be a great feeling.And you can even brag about your shots to your friends. And who knows, it could lead to paying jobs.
