As the winter and the rain and snow season approaches for most people it is time to think about your roof. The roof is one part of the home everybody cannot do without. But really it is the area of the home that is overlooked by everybody. The only time people notice it is if there is a leak or it needs to be replaced or repaired. But with winter quickly coming it wouldn’t be wise for people to wait for that.So here are a couple of ways you can use to check to find out if yuo have a leak in your roof.
First thing you want to do is make sure you know the difference between a leak and a condenstion spot. We get calls all the time for my San Diego roofing company for people who think they have a leak. But the moment we do get out there what we see is that it was a condensation stain instead of a leak. The quick way to see if it is condensation is you will see it doesn’t have a design. On the other hand a true leak will be circular. So if the spot you find is circular in shape that is a sign that it is a leak.
The next thing you want to do is check weak spots on the roof.Places that are known weak spots are areas like the chimney where it leaks a lot there. In our roofing Oceanside service we always check those areas because it is so common that it leaks there. It is a quick fix by sealing that area and making sure there arent’ any openings.
Last thing you want to do is look at the areas that have been penetrated by a nail.Quite often when the nailing of the roof is done there will be spots that aren’t sealed well. This is the cause of leaks that we find in my Rancho Bernardo roofing service. This is also a very easy fix by just finding the spot then sealing it.
So those are some of the methods you can use to be sure you don’t have any roof leaks this coming winter.
