The crucial role lighting plays in photography

One aspect of photography that is very important is the lighting.  There has been too much emphasis on equipments with regards to taking photos.  Or there is a lot of talk regarding other techniques for taking great pictures.  But there is probably none more important then knowing how light affects the photographs you take.  So in this article we are going to take a look how big a factor light is in making or breaking your photos.

First of all there is lighting called hard light. This type of light only occurs or comes from a bright and sunny day.  What this type of lighting can do to your photos is create very bright parts on some of it.  Or it can produce very dark parts of the photos.  This is very crucial especially when taking photos during weddings. Because a single instance of bad lighting can destroy a lot of photos. Understanding this has helped me in my San Diego wedding photographer service.

Next there is a type of lighting that they call soft light. This usually occurs during cloudy days and are usually smooth without too much shadows.  You can take advantage of this type of lighting to produce great quality photos. The main factor for such is it allows the colors to be vibrant and be seen on film.  This works very well for commercial type of photos similar to the clients I have worked for in my San Diego commercial photographer service.

And lastly there is artificial lighting that you can utilize to shoot photos. Some types of this lighting are the lights normally used when shooting in a photo studio. This is fine for taking those family portraits because you have the power to control how the lighting will affect your picture.  This has served my well in my San Diego event photography service.

As you have read, the role of lighting in photography can either enhance or ruin your picture.  If you understand what they are for and how to best utilize them, you will produce top quality photos.
