When you speak about take away food, they are always considered as being fattening and bad for your health, but people never really realise that some of the menu is more healthy than others. Obviously choosing something like a vegetable curry will be more healthy than something greasy and wrapped in batter. It’s all about knowing what’s the best and what’s the worst, while still enjoying your treat.
Here is a little guide to help you choose the healthiest options next time you order in a takeaway.
Fish and Chips: Although you can’t really avoid them, chips tend to be the worst things at chip shops, as for the others, sausages and pies are the other worst offenders. On the other hand, fish tends to be the healthiest items, cod, haddock and plaice and the least fatty of all the fish available.
Pizza: The worst choice you could have would be to have a deep pan base as these contain the most fat. As for toppings, try and stay away from extra cheese and pepperoni. If you’re going for the healthy option, have a thing crust with either fish or vegetables on top.
Chinese: Try and stay away from anything that’s greasy and crispy because this means they have been deep fried which is definately not good. The worst items on the menu are sweet and sour battered meat balls, fried rise, and spring rolls. As for the most healthiest items, try and stick to steamed food. Opting for things like crab and corn soup, beef, chicken, steamed veg and boiled rice are all healthier options.
Indian food: Just like the rules of Chinese, the items that contain the most fat and the ones that have been deep fried. Vegetable curry, chicken tikka, madras or bhuna are your best items to choose for a healthier meal. The best thing to have with them would be boiled rice.
Hopefully this will help you to change your order for something more healthier instead of your usual deep pan, triple cheese, pepperoni pizza. As I was writing that, it made me realise that I order all of the bad items, but it’s the same with all foods you eat. The food that is the best tasting is, more often than not, the wort for us.
