How To Buy Cookware

Making the decision on the right cookware for your kitchen can be difficult.  Most people would like to buy a decent of cookware without spending a fortune to do it.    Those that are really into cooking, will be looking for more expensive, chef-quality cookware.  Deciding on the right cookware depends on what works for you and how much you can afford to spend.

Cookware Prices

Cookware comes in a huge range of prices.  Deciding how much you can spend is the first step in deciding what cookware to buy.  How much do you want to spend?  More precisely, how much you can afford to spend?  A good set of cookware is a great investment, but it doesn’t make sense to spend so much you can’t afford the food to cook in it!

Don’t buy your cookware until you know how much to spend, then look for deals.  There are often sales on cookware, just like most products.  Stores often have sales, and even the manufacturer sometimes has special deals on cookware.

According to Hugh Rushing, Executive Vice President at Cookware Manufacturers Association, “There are two big seasons for cookware and cookware promotions.  One is in the spring, in April and May, coinciding with the graduation and wedding season. The other is in October and November, with promotions in regard to the holidays.”

Try to wait for those months, then look for cookware on sale.

What’s In the Set?

It helps to know how many pieces are in a set when choosing the right cookware for your kitchen.  A set of cookware may have just a few pots and pans, or it may include a wide variety of cookware.  Consider how many pieces are contained in a set.  Remember that the lids for the various pots and pans each count as a piece of the set.    For example, if you’re getting a 10-piece set, that may mean only 5 pots and pans, with the lids for each piece.

Easy Cleaning

One other important consideration when buying cookware is the ease of cleaning.  People have a lot of things to do, so most don’t want to spend a lot of time cleaning up the kitchen.  If washing pots and pans by hand doesn’t appeal to you, be sure to buy a set that is safe to put in the dishwasher.

Non-stick pots and pans are popular for this reason, but be aware that some of the cheaper sets have coatings that will flake off with continued use.  Eating the coating isn’t a good part of anyone’s diet, so get as high quality cookware as you can to avoid this problem as much as possible.  Coated cookware isn’t the only type that is easy to clean.

The Final Decision

Once you’ve decided on a budget for cookware, how many pieces you need for the bare essentials in your kitchen, and how important ease of cleaning is to you, it’s time to look for the best match of cookware sets.  With so many different types available, it’s sometimes hard to choose, but that makes it easier to find a set that’s just right for you.
