I know this will give away my age group, but I can remember life without a microwave. My teenage daughter thinks that means we started fire by rubbing sticks together!.
You do not really need fancy expensive appliances to stir up some camaraderie and family bonding. There is also nothing like giving an aura of romance for a party of three or four couples when the temperature is just what one would really love to be enclosed within. A barbecue can also be enjoyed by older people, or by the younger generation who can sometimes take a break from their regular diet of soda and fries. For the barbecue to withstand the onslaught of frequent preparation of splendid meals, the make should be preferably of cast iron with good features like side burners or rear burners.
We use ours all year long, but it really helps in the heat of summer to not use the oven as often and heat up the kitchen at the same time.
For garden parties it is a great thing to have within the safety of your yard. Kids also enjoy a change sometimes, and outdoor cooking can be a lot of fun with children (as long as all safety issues are taken care of). Some families make ‘barbecue day’ a routine as part of their family get-togethers, and friends and relatives can be called over to enjoy a fun filled evening with the aroma of freshly grilled meat wafting through the backyards.
Even more unique and enchanting are outdoor dinner parties under the starlit night sky, where people can gather, talk, drink and relish the freshly prepared meats. Here the very idea of alfresco pleasure is considerably increased with the instant hot meals cooked on the barbecue right in front of you and a cheap gas barbecue will serve the purpose here. There is really no need to invest in something that is very expensive to own and maintain.
As the evening hours draw towards the darker hours, the thrill of the dinner is more increasingly felt with seemingly unearthly shadows dancing in the glimmering lights. They are undoubtedly of the garden foliage, yet they seem all too realistic under the sky filled with stars and the shimmering moon. Perhaps after everyone has had their fill the barbecue can be turned off and everyone in unison can sing a few lovely songs together to end the beautiful evening.
