Learn The Facts On Tea Antioxidant

Today it feels like so many factors cause cancer. We are constantly being told of new cancer causing foods that we should avoid and eliminate from out diets. So what can we do besides existing on a boring diet? The answer can reside in tea antioxidants. Antioxidants sound like a strange chemical but they’re really vital to guaranteeing your body remains healthy.

The logic behind antioxidants is that in our bodies there are certain unstable molecules. These molecules are oxidants, or more ordinarily called free radicals, and can wreak havoc in your body. The technique to get rid of oxidants is naturally with antioxidants.

Tea and tea drinking has a long tradition in many cultures. In China tea drinking has long been associated with good health. Now it appears that modern medication is catching up with this belief. Tea antioxidants are thought to be highly beneficial in stopping cancer and keeping the body working in tip top condition.

This is as tea antioxidants have the facility to catch oxidants ranging around in our bodies. It is really important to keep the amount of oxidants in our bodies in check as oxidants could cause damage to genetic material and cell proteins. Tea antioxidants actually have the facility to fix some of the damage. Studies have shown that drinking tea regularly can help to prevent cancer.

Though every type of tea contain tea antioxidant, the level of antioxidants that are found in differing kinds of teas differs. All tea originates from the same plant but the process that each variety goes through means that different types of teas will have different levels of antioxidants.

Green tea is sometimes suggested as a drink which has many health properties. That’s because there are heavy levels of green tea antioxidant that are found in each cup of green tea. This is probably due to the fact that green tea has the least amount of processing. Black tea also has significant tea antioxidant levels but less antioxidant than found in green tea.

This doesn’t mean that all teas are good for you. Instant iced teas hardly have any antioxidants in it. This means that if you drink iced tea made from packets you are not getting many antioxidants. Most instant iced teas also have high sugar content and are likely not good for your total health. Substitute packet iced teas with real tea and try to introduce green tea into your typical diet.

The Top 3 Ways To Eat More Greens

One of the central components of any healthy diet is eating a sufficient quantity of

greens. Yet 95% of people who follow a health diet, do not consume enough green leafy

vegetables. I’ll admit, I often have trouble (or sometimes even lack the desire) to eat my

greens. There are days when I just don’t eat enough of them. I know greens are good. I

know I need to eat more greens but I just don’t do it. And then I discovered a fun way to

get more greens into my diet. Here are my Top-3 Ways to get more greens into your diet.

1. Make Green Smoothies

Green smoothies are great and my favorite way to consume a large quantity of greens! When

I first heard about green smoothies I was a little skeptical about blending fruit and

greens and was surprised by the result.

Here are some recipes from my ebook Smoothies for Optimal Health.

Berry Roman Smoothie

1 cup strawberries
2 whole bananas
1/2 bunch romain
1/2 to 1 cup water

Blend fruit and water. Add romaine lettuce. Enjoy.

Being Green Smoothie

2 cups fresh spinach
1 whole grated cucumber or carrot
2 whole bananas
1 whole orange
3 whole apples, juiced

In a blender, whirl together all ingredients until thick and smooth.

2. Make Blended Salads

Once you’ve gotten used to the taste of greens in your smoothies, you can graduate to

making blended salads. You can transition gradually by reducing the amount of fruit in

your smoothie and increasing the quantity of greens. Gaspacho is a type of blended salad.

Here is one of my favorite recipes (though I will admit it took me a while to get used to

the taste and texture of blended salads).

Blended Salad

2 medium tomatoes, roughly chopped
2 ribs of celery
4 leaves lettuce (big)
1 big handful spinach
1 green onion
1/2 avocado
1/4 cup parsley
2 Tbs. dulse flakes
1 Tbs. nori flakes (optional)
Water if needed

Blend the tomatoes together, and add the rest of the ingredients progressively. Use water

only if you need to. A blended salad should be quite thick.

The Role Of The Tea Room And The Tea Supplier

Filed under: Food and Drink advice — Tags: , , — admin @ 4:53 am

The growth in demand for high quality loose leaf tea is spectacular and all indications are that the trend will continue for the foreseeable future. As more loose leaf tea enthusiasts consume greater quantities of tea, the relationship between tea suppliers and the tea room increases in importance. Tea rooms are critically important to suppliers of loose leaf tea because the tea room bundles high quality loose leaf tea with other food products, services and an ambiance that create a very pleasurable tea experience. This addition of value is essential to the growth of the loose leaf tea market in the United States. Many high quality tea rooms create an intimate and attractive experience for the drinking of tea outside of the home. Historically tea has represented a total experience with social, cultural, and even spiritual aspects and high quality tea rooms offer a broad choice of loose leaf teas, complimentary food products like sandwiches, fruit, and pure water beverages in a pleasant, warm environment.

The basic element in the relationship between the tea supplier and the tea room however, is quality loose leaf tea. Loose leaf tea is all about quality and service. The owner of the tea room makes a substantial investment of time and resources including the choice of an attractive location, high quality furnishings and staff in order to create a quality brand. In order to maintain the integrity of the tea room brand the basic tea offering must be broad and one of consistent high quality. Quality tea rooms often look to increase the quality of tea and then maintain the consistency of the tea offering. In addition a broad product line of teas offered by the supplier offer the tea room's customers choices and the excitement of new blends and flavors. Many tea rooms are constantly on the look out for new vendors of loose leaf tea because new tea lines are easily integrated into their tea offering.

Generally speaking, the commercial relationship between tea importer suppliers and the tea room is a wholesale one with discounts off of retail provided based on volume of tea purchases. Where the supplier provides marketing and customer support the relationship tends to be close and very profitable for both parties. The relationship between tea rooms and tea suppliers is one of the mainstays of the loose leaf tea industry. Relationships that are based upon the highest tea quality and premium customer support and service will be valuable to both parties in the transaction.

Help In Choosing The Perfect Wine For A Meal

Choosing a good wine can be a real nightmare, especially when you’ve got someone to impress. You’re having a dinner party – you’ve planned the menu thoroughly, dusted off your best tableware and crystal glass, and got everything prepared – except for the wine selection. There’s just too much to think about, and everyone else always seems to know so much more than you do about it. You stand there for ages looking at the endless shelves of bottles, and the more you wonder about it the harder it gets. That’s why we’ve put together a few tips for what to watch out for and how to choose the perfect wine to compliment your meal.

Firstly and most importantly, you need to match the wine to the meal you will be eating. Everyone’s opinion is different when it comes to which wine will taste good with different foods, but there are a few basic guidelines that you can follow if you’re not sure. The easiest way is to match the colour of the wine to the food, you can’t go wrong. So if you’re eating red meat go for a dark red Cabernet or Syrah. For lamb or pork dishes a medium bodied red like a Merlot will be less heavy but still has a rich flavour. Chicken and fish dishes can often be overpowered by reds so it’s best to go for a crisp white instead, such as a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. If it’s a special occasion or celebration, you might be better off with a sparkling wine, served in fancy Champagne flutes.

Once you know what kind of wine you are looking for, check where it was made. Wines from different regions will vary hugely in quality, so it pays to do a bit of research into the best regions. If you’re not sure, France is always a good bet and has been producing fine wines for hundreds of years. Italy is another good choice, and Chilean wines are very popular at the moment too, particularly the reds.

Another thing you should check is the vintage of the wines you are choosing from, or the year they were bottled. A real wine buff will know which were the good years for each region, and will buy only vintages which they know came from a particularly good crop. For the rest of us, it can seem like a lot of guesswork, but if you know a few of the basics you’ll at least be on the right track. That all wines taste better the older they are is a common misconception. It’s true that most red wines do improve with a little aging, but most wineries don’t distribute these reds for a couple of years after bottling, which gives them time to mature. This means from the minute they appear in stores they are ready to drink and will taste good. Most white or sparkling wines don’t need aging, and are good to drink straight away.

Using Bamboo Sushi Mats For Great Sushi Rolls

If you seek perfection in making sushi rolls all by yourself, then you will require an investment to purchase a bamboo sushi mat and that too of high quality. Making sushi for special events and celebrations is luxury which you can enjoy if you can master the art of making good sushi. In order to make sushi rolls at home, you should buy a high quality bamboo sushi mat. You should keep in mind a lot of things to make good quality sushi rolls. It is important to make the rice properly, and the nori should be of high quality as well. The flavor of sushi would be really good if you choose all your ingredients, fish or vegetables, of the highest quality. It is very essential to make good sushi. The bamboo sushi mat is actually a bamboo mat used to roll sushi into tight balls, without crushing the ingredients or rice. When the sushi is completely rolled, use the rolling mat to squeeze the sushi so it does not unroll when you are trying to cut it. Rolling is not easy for beginners, though practice will help build the skill to roll sushi perfectly. Before commencing with the sushi rolling practice you should learn how to make sushi rice. After cleaning and soaking the rice, you can start with cooking. This takes about an hour in total with half an hour each for soaking and wetting, and half an hour for cooking. People usually make two mistakes that makes inferior sushi. One, that they do not clean the rice, and the second, that they do not let the rice soak up water for as long as it should remain soaked. As the taste of sushi depends on how well the rice is cooked, care should be taken about this method. Also, vinegar is added to rice when the rice is still hot. You should also be careful about using flavored nori. People often use flavored nori for the sake of experiment only to find that the result is not great. Sushi should always be made with high quality and unflavored sushi. You should avoid any other type of nori to go with your sushi. You can use selected ingredients if you only wish to practice on your bamboo sushi mat. If you choose superior quality ingredients, it will prove to be very expensive. However, you should try not to waste food. It is an important part of Japanese culture that they do not waste food and consider it bad manners.

History Of Tea

The true origins of tea as a beverage are unknown, but it is believed that tea drinking began about 5,000 years ago in China, where the tea plant, "Camellia sinensis," is native. It is perhaps because of this lack of verifiable information on the beginning of tea and tea drinking that a number of legends have sprung up around the creation of tea as a beverage. The World’s First Tea Drinker? One of the more popular legends of how tea drinking began center around “Shennong,” who was believed to be an ancient Chinese emperor, herbalist and farmer (in fact, his name means the Divine Farmer). A few of the tea leaves from the burning tea twigs floated in the heat from the fire and landed into the pot of boiling water. His curiosity piqued by the discoloration of the boiling water caused by the tea leaves, Shennong decided to try the accidental brew. He apparently enjoyed it, and thus tea the beverage was born. No word on whether Shennong took his tea with sugar and milk, though.

Wan Tu Drink Some Tea? A variation of the Shennong tea legend has an evil, cruel man by the name of “Wan Tu” as the discoverer of tea. The way this variation goes is that Wan Tu was banished to the southern areas of China because of his despotic temperament. While there, he too falls prey to falling tea leaves in his pot of boiling water. Wan Tu drinks the tea and, as legend has it, he finds tea so refreshing he becomes a kinder, gentler man. There is another Chinese legend on the discovery of tea, albeit with a twist of Buddhism. This particular legend has it that “Bodhidharma,” an Indian Buddhist monk famous as the founder of Zen Buddhism, travelled to China. While there, he became so angry at his drowsiness during meditation, he cut off his eyelids and threw them to the ground. His eyelids sprang into tea bushes immediately, thus creating instant tea, in a manner of speaking.

How To Store Your Wine

If you’re like me, you like your wine…a lot, and you drink it after work, with a special meal, or for a particular occasion. You probably have a couple bottles on hand with one white in the fridge and a red in the pantry, unless you are a true wine enthusiast and have a full cellar stocked. That’s what I always did but I didn’t know one thing: how to properly store my wine.

Though there is a whole world out there of wine rules and standards that many enthusiasts follow to a ‘t’, I was never one to follow their convention. I just figured knowing the simple stuff would be enough. At first, I didn’t use a Ravenscroft wine decanter or even gave a second thought to the type of wine glasses I was using. This went for how I stored my wine as well. But then, on a lark, I thought I would try storing my bottles the way you are supposed to, and believe or not, the taste improved dramatically, so even if you aren’t overly consumed by the latest wine rules, consider this one on wine storage a staple.

Temperature: First off, no matter what type of wine you have on hand, it should always be stored in a cool setting-yes! This is why wine enthusiast have wine cellars, for optimal taste! While the best tempurature for wine varies slightly, 55 degrees is a good target.  Too much warmer than this temperature, and you will find a much more acidic taste to your wine-one that you won’t enjoy. Try to keep your wine at a constant temperature, as this change will dramatically change the taste of your wine.

Light: Make sure if you want your wine to retain its original full flavor, that you store it in a place where not a lot of light can get at it. Wine that sits in the sunlight for long periods of time will prematurly age your wine in a bad way.

Humidity: Another key consideration when it comes to optimal wine storage is making sure that the humidity levels are just right. Overall, It should be more humid than not in order to keep the wine corks from shrinking. Air will oxidize your wine, so make sure you don’t get cork shrinkage. So, what the right humidity level for storing wine? Between 65-75%. So it only makes sense that basements and cellars are perfect for wine storage.

Sideways: So many wine racks and cellars hold their wine bottles sideways instead of upright, this may seem a strange one to some, but it’s worked for thousands of years? Yes. It is because in order to ensure that the cork is protected from shrinking, it needs to stay moist. This said, keeping a bottle of wine on its side, keeps the wine in constant contact with the cork, thereby keeping it moist.

Travel: When traveling with your wine, you know, to a party or to a BYOB resaurant be sure to use a wine bottle carrier.  This will help keep your wine at the right temperature and keep it protected from bouncing around.

Caffeine Benefits – Does It Boost Memory?

Caffeine, like chocolate, often receives bad publicity. Whilst in some instances, and in excess, these can have negative effects on our body, they can also be quite beneficial. I am not disputing that some people are more sensitive to the negative effects of either caffeine or chocolate. For example, excess caffeine can create anxiety, nausea (particularly if taken on an empty stomach), an increase in heart rate, and even depression in some people. And chocolate is certainly not something that should form the mainstay of one’s diet. If struggling with sugar addiction, or wanting to lose weight, there are more nutritionally complete foods that are available. But scientists have turned up some interesting facts on caffeine. For example, caffeine actually blocks the effects of a neurotransmitter in the brain (adenosine) that otherwise makes us feel tired. This is why it works so well to keep us awake. It also encourages the release of another brain chemical, dopamine (as well as adrenaline). Dopamine contributes to a feeling of well being.

Two studies, one a population based study (which are not as specific or rigorously defined as other types of studies, but nonetheless valuable indicators) found that drinking caffeine containing drinks like coffee and tea had a protective effect for those at risk of developing liver disease. Issues that the study participants had that increased their risk of liver disease included alcoholism, hepatitis B or C, obesity, or other complications.

And the results indicated that people who drank more than 2 cups of coffee a day had a 44% lower chance of showing actual liver damage compared to those who drank no caffeine. This was not a clinical trial, and the reason why coffee and tea had such an effect is not known. Coffee and tea contain a range of plant chemicals (phytonutrients) that could be responsible for this. A 2005 Norwegian study also found similar benefits for coffee with regards liver disease. This study found that drinking 3 cups of coffee a day could lower the risk of death from liver cirrhosis.

Even if you're not at risk of liver disease, caffeine still has some advantages. Recent research from Austria showed that caffeine may actually enhance short term memory. Researchers found that there was an increase in brain activity (as measured by functional magnetic resonance imaging) in the parts of the brain that were associated with memory and attention. These parts of the brain were the frontal lobe and the anterior cingulum. This was a placebo controlled study, meaning that some people were not given any caffeine. Another , earlier study (2004) found that caffeine did support short term memory, but only when it was in relation to a topic that people were already thinking about. This study found that when testing coffee's effects on unrelated subjects, short term recall was actually inhibited.
